The party journeyed further down, and found a room that contained 4 Solars trapped in giant glass tubes, with bolts of electricity coming from a machine at each tube and directed toward a ball of energy in the center of the room (above a holy symbol of the Black Sun). As Dawn approached, the energy ball formed into a body, that of Gol-Tza, the Black Sun, an Ashurendra Ashura, and his blasphemous taunts urged the party into battle.
Combat started, and the group soon found out that the Ashura was protected from harm somehow due to the Solars. Setanta got the idea that destroying the electricity machines might help, and after they destroyed all four machines, the ashura became vulnerable to their attacks. A viscious combat then ensued, with the party and the ashura both taking significant licks. The Ashura then summoned some power from the solars, and healed himself, but the ability also healed the party members in the room.
Figuring freeing the solars might help prevent futher healing, Setanta and Roquar concentrated on destroying the tubes, while Dawn and Dianne kept the ashura busy. Combat continued, and as Gol-Tza began to get winded, he healed himself again, albeit only itself this time. The solars howled in pain, and soon the party had freed all 4, cutting off the healing source. Frantically, the party continued their assaults, but after Gol-Tza paralyzed Setanta and Dawn, things looked bleak. Dianne and Roquar managed to stay alive after a brutal onslaught, and when Dawn could move again, the group quickly finished off the ashura.
Once it was felled, the solars regained their power. Cleaning off the holy symbol in the center of the room (which was a blackened out symbol of Solus to represent the Black Sun), the solars became even more cognizant, and rewarded a miracle boon to each party member (+1 inherent scores ala wish, since miracle should be able to do that too). After they took their leave, the Cathedral started shaking and raising vertically.
Once it settled into a higher position, a great clap echoed throughout the chamber, and Solus, god of the Sun (and Dawn’s patron deity) appeared in the center of the room. Dawn and Lilly fawned over the deity, Setanta chastised it for past transgressions, and Rouqar and Dianne were meh’d. Some exposition about future plans and the fact that the deities were divided on the principle of this quest occurred. Solus then bid the party leave, and summoned the high ranking clergy of this planet to the room, to re-establish his holy seat of power here at the Cathedral of the Star instead of its present location at the Shining Seat in The Divinity.
The party then headed back topside, noticed that the swamp was receding away from the Cathedral, and began planning their next course of action.
